| Since
1973 the Department of Archives has been mounting exhibitions annually.
The main purpose of these exhibitions is the education of the Bahamian
populace in the area of history and culture. Exhibitions of archival
materials show what an archives collects, preserves and makes available
to researchers.
Along with the
displays, the department also publishes a booklet or catalogue.
They allow the Archives to share some part of the exhibitions with
distance audiences, future readers as well as current readers who
see the exhibition and want to study the subject in more depth.
The department
has set up a small printing unit using a Risograph GR-3750 Digital
Duplicator which was purchased through a grant from the Organization
of American States. This equipment now enables the department to
print booklets from facsimiles, manuscripts, historical reports
and Archives exhibitions. These booklets are disseminated to students
in New Providence as well as the Family Islands where they do not
have access to the information necessary to complete their projects
in the two national exams.
