REGISTER
OF FREED SLAVES
1740 - 1834
Before the abolition of slavery in August 1834 many slaves were
freed by benevolent masters through manumission or bequest.
Additionally some purchased their freedom. The Register of Freed
Slaves is a listing which contains the following information:
the slave names, the individuals who freed them, the date, how
they were made free and references to where the actual manuscripts
could be found. The names are recorded in alphabetical order.
