REGISTER OF FREED SLAVES
1740 - 1834


Before the abolition of slavery in August 1834 many slaves were freed by benevolent masters through manumission or bequest. Additionally some purchased their freedom. The Register of Freed Slaves is a listing which contains the following information: the slave names, the individuals who freed them, the date, how they were made free and references to where the actual manuscripts could be found. The names are recorded in alphabetical order.
