VOTERS REGISTERS AND LIST OF PROPRIETORS

Before 1959 registration of voters took place at the Registrar General's Office. However with the incorporation of the Parliamentary Registration Department, this office became responsible for voter registration. No major deposits came from this area until 1992 when many volumes of computer print outs were sent in.

The Archives has in its possession registers of voters and proprietors dating from 1869 - 1968. The earlier records were deposited by the Registrar General's Office and the later ones 1960 - 68 by the Parliamentary Registration Department. Commissioners from several Out Islands also deposited Voter Registers for the 1950s and 1960s. These include Abaco, Bimini, Cat Island, Andros and Inagua. Genealogists can find interesting bits of information regarding name, address, date of birth and occupation from these records.

For further information researchers can consult the Parliamentary Registration Department.
