| The
Department of Archives possesses a large collection of microfilmed
documents and has in-house microfilming processing and duplication
facilities.
The modest photographic
facility was established in 1977 and has been able to meet the demands
of the annual exhibitions and the numerous requests from researchers
for photographs. The photograph plays an important role in the Department
of Archives. In the photo collection there are hundreds of photographs
relating to people, places of interest, churches, society and other
events of historical interest.
In addition,
numerous articles and publications have been produced by the Department
of Archives in which photography has played a major role. The constant
acquisition and production of photographs have created one of the
best photographic collections within The Bahamas.
The Microfilming
and Photography Section continues to acquire, preserve and make
available documents and photographs of historical significance to
all who require them.
