SLAVE REGISTERS

Masters were required to submit a list of their slaves to the Registrar General's Office. The Slave Registers which date from 1821 - 1834 provide information such as the owner's name, slave names, sex, age, complexion, place of employment and birth place. The latter information was indicated by the words African or Creole which meant born in the West Indies. The 1834 Register also gives type of occupation.
